Located at the top of the Pedisqueira Hill, on the highest point of the city of Chaves, the Forte de S\u00e3o Francisco Hotel, it is located in a former military fortress of the seventeenth century, which presently it is a National Monument since 1938.<\/p>\n

The 58 rooms of the Hotel, provides antique style furniture and traditional Portuguese decoration, air conditioning and satellite TV, presenting views to the countryside.<\/p>\n

The Hotel also provides a restaurant that serves regional cuisine, with capacity until 300 persons, two bars (The principal and the swimming pool bar), a garden with 15,000 m\u00b2, with an outdoor swimming pool and meeting rooms, as well, as an auditorium with the capacity to 8 to 200 places.<\/p>\n

There is also at the hotel unit, a tennis court with panoramic views, sauna, jacuzzi, snoooker, ping-pong, as well, as other games, entertainment and tours. The Fort of S\u00e3o Francisco provides a church with an art gallery, an aviary with rare birds and a touristic balcony.<\/p>\n

In the municipality of Chaves, as places of interest, there are the Roman bridge of Chaves, the Castle of Chaves, the Roman Walk-Keys\/S\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o and the Castle of Monforte \u00c1guas Frias.<\/p>\n

The Fort of S\u00e3o Francisco it is located in a place where existed the Church of Nossa Senhora do Ros\u00e1rio, of the fifteenth century. Between 1635 and 1637 it was built a Franciscan convent, and from 1658 to 1662, it was built by King Dom Jo\u00e3o IV, the Fort around the convent.<\/p>\n

During centuries lived inside the Fort Franciscan monks and the military. On the principal tomb of the Church was deposed by hundreds of years Dom Afonso, the first Duke of Bragan\u00e7a. On the nineteenth and twentieth centuries until 1950, the fort served as a cavalry barracks and military hospital.<\/p>\n

After a long period of abandonment, the fort was declared a National Monument in 1938, being that at the time, its military and conventual buildings were in an advanced state of degradation.<\/p>\n

On 17h May 17 of 1997, after 10 years of research and projects, it was inaugurated the Fort de S\u00e3o Francisco Hotel, inside of the walls on the referred restored buildings and decorated, surrounded by 15.000m2 of gardens and patios, with beautiful views to the historic center of the city, the river, the valley and the mountains that surround it.<\/p>\n
