Viana do Castelo, is the district at most North of Portugal, in the region of Entre Douro e Minho, located between the rivers Minho and Neiva, with a picture of contrasts, which includes the sea, with beaches of fine and golden sand, the Mount of Santa Luzia, which draws the horizon, and the river Lima, which surrounds the quiet river beaches.
it´s a region quite mountainous, with many steep slopes, conducive to the development of wild species, being also, by that, one of the regions with more natural beauty.
The capital, is located in the city of Viana do Castelo, founded in 1528, with a lot of monuments and mansions of different periods and styles. It is also the capital of Minho folklore, an important handicraft industry and animated festivals.
Its area is 2255 km ² with 252,011 people residente in 2006.
