Located inside the Natural Park of the Guadiana Valley, the Hotel São Domingos, of 4 stars, inaugurated in 2006, is at short distance of the village Mina de São Domingos, on the Mértola municipality.

The building where is the Hotel, was built in 1875, having been for a lot of years, called as “Palace” and having also functioned as the administrative headquarters of the São Domingos mine, resulting from the architecture, between the Alentejo architecture and post-Victorian.

The Hotel unit provides accommodation boutique, combining Alentejo decorations with a late Victorian style. The 31 rooms of the Hotel are equipped with TV satellite, being that some of the rooms include a luxury bathroom with Jacuzzi and others open to furnished terraces with view for the pool or for the fluvial beach.

The restaurant of the Hotel, serves a fusion of traditional dishes of the Lower Alentejo and of international cuisine. The bar, located by the pool, serves local drinks and witty drinks. At the hotel, there is still a private observatory, where it is possible to spend nights observing the stars.

The Center Holisis of the Hotel provides several therapies including Oriental massage, reflexology and music therapy. On the hotel, there is also private parking available for free on the place.

The Mine of São Domingos was in the past the biggest mine of pyrite and copper from the Iberian Peninsula, explored since the mid 19 TH century by the British company Mason & Berry, having giving origin to the village which, architecture reflected the architecture of the own enterprise. In 1966, more than 100 years over the beginning of the exploration, the mine of São Domingos was closed, having given the beginning to the desertification process of the respective mining village.

As a touristic attraction in the area, there is the Tapada Grande Fluvial Beach, built by the English to supply the village of water and provide moments of conviviality and leisure. Presently, it is a touristic attraction, especially in warm seasons.
