The Palace Hotel do Bussaco, of 5 stars, it is installed since 1917 on the palace built in 1885 for the last kings of Portugal, presenting a great architectural beauty, located in the parish of Luso, municipality of Mealhada.

It is located inside of the National Forest of Bussaco, ex-libris botanist and natural of Portugal, being an immense forest, planted and walled by the Order of Carmelitas Descalços in the 1st quarter of the 17 Th century.

The hotel, presenting a neo-Manueline style, it is furnished and decorated with several works of art, fresh, valuable paintings and tile panels, representing the Portuguese discoveries, the Battle of Bussaco (elapsed in 1810) as well as passages of The Lusíadas.

The unit has 64 palatial rooms, of which 2 junior suites with views over the garden suites, D. Manuel and D. Luiz, the suite Queen D. Amélia and the Royal suite, constituted by  of a living room, dining room, dressing room and bedroom with large terrace dominating the gardens and surrounding forest with a panoramic view.

All rooms are furnished with style pieces, in a heterogeneity that ranges from D. Maria and D. José to examples of Art Nouveau and are equipped with satellite TV. There are also the private rooms for the realization of banquets in the restricted circle.

The Restaurant João Vaz, with a palatial ambience in which it highlights the fresh of João Vaz illustrating maritime passages of The Lusíadas, serves gastronomy with a great preponderance of the traditional Portuguese cuisine and local specialties. The Hotel bar is located at the bottom of the Main Hall, in front of a picture of João Reis.

The Bussaco Palace Hotel also provides extra services connected with buffet breakfast served at the restaurant, concierge, guard of values in individual safes, boutique, room service, laundry, private parking, babysitting, by previous reserve and limousine service and helicopter by request.

On the surrounding area of the Palace Hotel do Bussaco, there is the monumental set of Bussaco, with a big rich heritage, formed by the Convent of Santa Cruz, the housing hermitages, the chapels of devotion and the steps that make up the Via Sacra, the Fence with the Doors, the Military Museum and the monument commemorating the Battle of Bussaco, the cruises, the sources, the cisterns and the viewpoints.

The Bussaco Forest has about 250 species of trees. The forest was in possession of the Bishop of Coimbra since 1094, being passed by the administration of the Order of the Carmelitas Descalços, from 1628, until the extinction of the religious orders in 1834, by Mouzinho da Silveira. In September 1810 the forest was the scene of the Battle of Bussaco, one of the episodes of the Napoleonic invasions in Portugal and that was won by the Anglo- Portuguese troops over the French troops.
