Santana Youth Center

The Santana Youth Center was opened in 2009, resulting from the recovery of the Figueira Pension, one of the oldest accommodations of Santana, at the Madeira Island and is situated next to the typical houses of Santana, having been the remaining divisions, framed in modern installations, which extends to east, to the Santana House of Culture.

The structure provides 16 rooms, hostel kitchen, living room, internet and parking.

It is a good place to start exploring the Laurissilva Forest, considered World Heritage by Unesco in 1999, being the most extensive and best preserved forest of Madeira and of the archipelagos that constitutes the Macoronésia. It is considered by many as a relic of the subtropical forest, that in the tertiary age, existed on the South of Europe and on the Mediterranean basin.

In Santana, there is a vast heritage on the one hand, at natural level, with old and beautiful irrigation channels that demonstrates the agricultural importance of the respective agricultural terrains over the years, and on the other hand, at the level of the natural glow almost wild on Madeira Island and at the architectural level, in which, it highlights monuments as the Chapel of Santo António, of the sixteenth century, the Chapel of Santa Ana, of the seventeenth-century or the Church of São Jorge.

It also highlights places as the Pico Coutado, the Achada do Teixeira (at about 1592 meters altitude), the Cova da Roda or the Pico Ruivo ( at 1862 meters altitude. In Santana, there is located the modern Thematic Park of Madeira, dedicated to the history, science and tradition of the Madeira Archipelago, having four multimedia pavilions.
