This Youth Hostel opened in 2009, it is located on the Convent of São Pedro de Alcântara, of the seventeenth century, having been recovered and transformed at the Pico Youth Hostel, the island where we can reach to the highest point of Portugal.
The Hostel has 12 rooms, café/bar, esplanade, hostel kitchen, hostel laundry, living room, meeting rooms, internet, lockers for luggage and parking.
It is the place for all kinds of outdoor activities, from walking or cycling and diving, beyond the observation of whales and dolphins.
The Pico Island is the second largest island of the Açores Archipelago, presenting several points of interest, starting with the very typical architecture of simple white houses and blocks of black lava, which reflects the island’s volcanic origins.
It also highlights on the island, the principal localities, such as Lajes, São Roque and Madalena, full of history and heritage or other places of natural beauty as the Grotto of Torres, the Furnas of Frei Matias or the rock formation of Arco do Cachorro.
The Pico Island, also provides a good gastronomic heritage, based on fresh fish and seafood, where it highlights the stews, the meat coming from the many pastures, the cheese (concretely, of São João and Arrife). It also highlights the Verdelho wine and the red and white wines of the island.
